Just got an email today. Along with a picture of a young man with an excited, gleeful looking face and clinched fist, the attachment reads "our new process will simultaneously notify appraisers of a new order. The quickest appraiser to accept the order will earn the business."

Isn't this great news!!!

I think the broadcast system is the most insulting ordering system.  Just another example of the appraisal being a commodity.....

One thing is for sure. If it doesn't bother you, and you're not motivated to want to do something, then you will continue to get more of the same. Amen.

How about we do a broadcast announcement of our own. Maybe we could read their memo on their great new ordering system at our next GCAP meeting. I mean, after all, with an opportunity like this, I want them to get all of the advertising they deserve.

That's easy. Don't accept this condition of employment. Don't work for them.

Whenever I read threads about mass emails, such as this one, I wonder why I don't receive them? I have been appraising for 18 years and am on the ASC website, so why do others get the emails? Is it because you are already accepting low fee work from these bottomfeeders? I am honestly asking, as I don't receive many of the low-ball, insulting emails. Don't get me wrong, I get some spam from the lowlife AMCs. To be honest though, when I read a lot of the recent threads on JB's forum and AF about an offensive mass email, I did not receive it.

To be honest, after reading this thread, I am going to sign up with TSI and accept every offer I can. Don't get me wrong, I will not do the appraisals, but WILL be the quickest to "snag" the order. The mass blast email sounds like the reward is being the quickest to get the order and has nothing to do about completing the order in a competent manner. I will snag them and be the WINNER, for a while.

CF,
I worked for this company, Quicken Loans, before they became TSI. I have a long history with them. I don't do any work for them anymore, but I still get their emails. Just about every email I get refers to some new work requirement. It just grows and grows and grows......There is absolutely no future for anyone working for companies like this. It's all based on fast and cheap.

With broadcasts at least they are not assigning based on who pleased the checkbox chimps the most.

A broadcast eliminates assigning based on turn time, quality, fees etc.  A broadcast is probably the most honest way of assigning reports.

Accept them and hit them up for a fee increase.  Or accept the possibilty that you might have to lower your fees to remain competitive.

I know thats a bad word, but if were are not competitive we will be replaced by a machine.

Jody,
Which AMC do you work for? Not just appraiser for, do you work in one of their offices, marketing, admin or something? There is no way I will believe someone can be that brainwashed! ....

Replaced by a machine? Broadcast eliminates assigning based on turn time, quality, fees? They set the TAT and then post the lowest possible fee in the broadcast order. How is that eliminating assignments based on fees? And if you accept them, you will have to have an amazing reason to get an increase. Your choice will be, you'll have to stick with the low fee or get a note on your file and soon be removed which gets you nowhere....

I wonder how many end users of the report (lenders) actually know they are getting sub-par quality work. Broadcasting low fee assignments will ensure a low quality appraisal or at least one performed with no geographic competancy. With all of the nonsense we have had to endue it seems CRAZY that such requests are even allowed. Maybe we should alert lenders about the offers we see. I went to the dentist today and have to go back for a crown. They said it is $1,000 or so and they could do it in 3 weeks. I offered $300 and said I wanted it done this week. They laughed and said something about a cold day in hell. Sound familiar?

Do you think the public would be impressed with how they assign orders? Would you want the appraiser for your refinance selected this way?

Ken exactly.  I wish I were more motivated or outgoing b/c this could make a fantastic national news article...   Any extroverts out there?  The public would be disgusted in how one of the decision makers of their most valuable possession and potential budget making transaction is being selected.
