I am off Friday.  I think I might:
  1. Get a free breakfast at Ihop.
  2. Get a free cup of coffee at Starbucks.
  3. Eat a free lunch at Chili's.
  4. Eat a free dinner at Applebee's.
  5. Get a free haircut at Great Clips.
It looks like a full day.

I'm sitting in traffic behind a funeral for a fallen cop. Very sad. It's the second time today I have been caught by the same procession.

My dad died very early due to WW-ll, I served in Vietnam, and my grandson just returned from Afghanistan within the past few weeks. Sometimes I wonder why all of this controversy is necessary. Most of us have lost family members or close friend to these wars. Then I watch the wet nosed protesters and wonder why they are allowed to destroy other peoples property. The go along to get along mentality sucks. Get over it!

Memorial Day is a day to remember our Veterans but their family's suffer much more than most of us suffered...I was young and full of myself and most of the time too busy to be lonely...not true for our families.

Thanks to all who served and their family's that dreaded every call from an unknown number.

God Bless America!

I would like to say thank you to all that have served.  To me, every day is veteran's day.  Sincerely, I thank you.

But I do think that offering freebies is just a way to commercialize the day and frankly I see it as a tad disrespectful.  I think veterans day should be a day of patriotism and reflection on our great country, not another day full of news paper flyers and 50% off a couch and loveseat combo at Roses.

I mean, a free cup of coffee and a haircut really demeans what sacrifices some have made for our country.  If businesses really want to help or give back, I think maybe donating a portion of their proceeds on an annual basis to a worthy charity such as Battle Buddies or something would be more significant than trying to equate giving a veteran a dollars worth of hot water and squished beans out of their advertising budget.

I don't know... I mean no disrespect to anyone, just me ranting.  But just imagine... such as John's post above... He just rattled off advertisement for 5 brand names that really couldn't give a damn about veterans.  Thats the intent of these freebies... Not to help the veteran or really say thanks but to exploit cheap advertising on the backs of our heros.  I find it disrespectful.

Gold Star families don't get a free haircut or a cup of coffee.

Thanks Vets.

Trump was the only one who I heard express a desire to take better care of our military people.
I sincerely hope that our government can better direct our tax dollars to service all those who have served and make all this possible.

When my grandad was at the veteran's home in milledgeville, the head doctor was Japanese.

How could they?

I watched them drop a quadrapalegic Ranger from a harness when they were changing his bedding.  He fell about 6 feet, bled out and died.  Careless bullschittilitidooda.

Its an interesting place to say the least.  Lot of fine people there and some amazing stories.

Meatloaf, I agree.  I decided to opt out of the freebies because the time required was worth about half of what I could have made if I had had a class with only one student and it would have taken all day.

I could not resist a free pizza for lunch, though. [smile]
